GIF or JPG?
We are often asked which graphics file format is best to use on the web. Is it GIF, JPG, or any of the others that can be used.
There is actually a very simple rule to follow:
USE GIF IF...the image is made up of solid colours, for example a logo, text, line art, or schematic diagrams.
USE JPG IF...the image contains shading or gradient fills such as photographs.
Also note that the GIF compression method is lossless, that is the compressed image will not alter at all from the original. JPG compression on the other hand can change the appearance of an image and make it look fuzzy, or dirty.
